QNH has a special affinity with flying. The name of our company is a term used in aviation (air pressure at sea level) and the way we work is fully aligned with the principles of aviation. Since QNH was set up we have applied the concept of attitude in aviation to the services we provide.
Professional collaboration
Aviation is all about professionalism. When an engineer services an engine, you can rest assured that the engine will work. The airline assumes responsibility, but in reality responsibility is devolved to lower levels of the organisation and is shouldered by pilots and engineers. Professionals are people you can depend on. And that inspires confidence.
Freedom
Flying is freedom. The third dimension, the view, the journey rather than the destination. Yet freedom also has everything to do with thinking that dares to transcend existing parameters. Thinking that provides a different perspective. Insisting on the freedom to question existing principles and create original solutions makes all the difference.
Decisiveness
Timing is an important limiting factor during a flight. Aviation is all about fast and effective decision-making. Organisations often devote a great deal of time and attention to decision-making. Yet the decisions they make are frequently based on inaccurate information. And in some cases they fail to reach a decision. In aviation this can be fatal. Businesses can learn a great deal from aviation.
Integrated systems
An aircraft is made up of different ‘systems' and all of these systems have to work together in an integrated way for a flight to be safe. Together the wings, the engines, the instruments, the hydraulics, the navigation system and the landing gear form an integrated system. And, needless to say, this internal system also has to interact seamlessly with external systems such as airports, air traffic control and maintenance services. This is very much like a company, where operations, logistics, finance, personnel, IT, marketing and sales form an integrated system. Yet, remarkably enough, companies that provide business services tend to concentrate on the individual systems rather than on the integration within and between organisations.
